FAQ Common questions
The map doesn’t show where I am.
The app needs permission to use your location. Open your phone’s settings, find E-Bike Trails, and allow location access while using the app. Make sure location services are on and that you have a GPS signal (open sky helps). Then reopen the app.
Where do the trails come from?
Trail data comes from the U.S. Forest Service Motor Vehicle Use Maps (MVUM) and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM). Some trails may show limited or “no data” details if that information isn’t in the source data.
Can I rely on the app to tell me where I’m allowed to ride?
Use it as a guide, not as the final word. Trail data can be out of date, and rules for e-bikes vary by land manager, trail and e-bike class. Always follow posted signs and check with the local ranger district or land manager before you ride.
I found a trail that’s wrong or missing.
Email us the trail name, the area, and what looks wrong. We can’t edit the Forest Service’s source data ourselves, but your report helps us spot problems, and you can also report errors to the local Forest Service office.
How do I add my e-bike and battery?
Create a bike profile in the app with the make, model, model year and battery capacity in watt-hours (Wh). You can add more than one bike. If you enter a capacity outside the typical range of 300–1200 Wh, the app will show an alert, but you can still save it.
Can I edit a ride after I save it?
Yes, some parts. Open the saved ride and edit its details, such as the bike and the battery percentages at the start and finish. Editing the route itself is not currently supported.
Does it keep recording when my screen is off?
Yes. Once you start recording a ride, it keeps recording when your phone is locked, the screen turns off, or you switch to another app. Your phone will show that location is in use, such as an ongoing notification on Android or a location indicator on iOS. Recording stops when you end the ride in the app. If you notice gaps in a route, your phone’s battery-saver settings may be limiting the app, so try allowing E-Bike Trails to run without battery restrictions.
Does the app work without cell signal?
As you move around the map, the app keeps copies of the map and trail data you’ve viewed, so places you’ve already looked at may still load with a weak or missing signal. It doesn’t download areas ahead of time, so open the map where you plan to ride while you still have a connection.
Where is my ride data stored? How do I delete it?
Your bikes and rides are stored on your phone, not on our servers. You can delete individual items in the app, and uninstalling the app removes everything it stored. See our Privacy Policy for details.
I got a new phone. Will my rides come with me?
Because your data lives on your device and we don’t have accounts, rides don’t automatically move to a new phone. Your phone’s own backup and transfer tools may carry app data over, depending on your device and settings. This is something we'll be looking into for future updates.
