The short version

  • E-Bike Trails uses your phone’s location to show you on the map and to record rides you choose to record.
  • Once you start recording a ride, it keeps recording when your phone is locked or the app is in the background, until you end the ride. It doesn’t track your location in the background when you aren’t recording.
  • Your bikes, batteries and saved rides are stored on your device. We don’t have an account system and don’t collect them on our servers.
  • We don’t sell your personal information, and the app doesn’t show ads or use advertising trackers.
  • Map and trail data come from third-party services, which receive ordinary request information (like your IP address) when the app loads them.
  • This website doesn’t use analytics, advertising trackers or cookies. The optional contributor site stores only a sign-in token in your browser. See Website and email.
  • If you buy Premium, Apple or Google processes the payment, and RevenueCat helps the app confirm your subscription. We never see your card details.

This Privacy Policy explains how E-Bike Trails, LLC (“we,” “us,” “our”) handles information in the E-Bike Trails mobile app for iOS and Android (the “App”) and on this website. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.

01 Information the App uses

Location

With your permission, the App reads your device’s precise location while you are using it so it can show where you are on the map and load trails near you.

Recording while your phone is locked. When you start recording a ride, the App keeps collecting your location for as long as the recording is active, even if you lock your phone, the screen turns off, or you switch to another app. This is how it captures your full route. Your device will indicate that location is in use while this happens, for example with an ongoing notification on Android or a location indicator on iOS. The App stops collecting location when you end the recording, and it does not collect your location in the background when you are not recording a ride.

You can turn location access off at any time in your device settings; the map will still work, but it won’t show your position and ride recording won’t be available.

Bike and battery details you enter

If you create bike profiles, the App stores the details you type in, such as bike make, model, model year, and battery capacity (in watt-hours), plus the battery percentage you enter at the start and end of a ride.

Rides you record

When you record a ride, the App saves the ride’s route and statistics, such as distance and elevation gain and loss, along with the bike you selected. Recording continues while your phone is locked or the App is in the background, until you end the ride. You can edit your saved rides later.

Purchase and subscription information

If you buy Premium, the purchase is handled by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). They process your payment, and we never receive your card or payment details. To know whether Premium is active, the App uses RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, which receives an anonymous app user identifier, your purchase and subscription status (such as product, dates and renewal status), and basic device and app information such as platform and app version. Like any online service, it also sees your IP address. We use this only to unlock and manage Premium. See the Terms of Service for how subscriptions work.

Cached map and trail data

To load faster and work better in areas with weak signal, the App may keep copies of map tiles and trail data on your device as you browse the map. This cache contains public map data, not personal information.

02 Where your information is stored

Your bike profiles, battery entries, recorded rides, settings and cached map data are stored locally on your device. The App does not require you to create an account, and we do not upload this information to our servers. Because it lives on your device, we can’t see it, recover it, or delete it for you.

03 Third-party services

The App loads public map and trail information from outside providers. When your device requests this data, the provider receives standard technical information such as your IP address, device and app type, and the map area being requested. That area is based on what you are viewing on the map, which may be near your location. We don’t control these providers’ practices; please review their policies.

04 USFS & BLM map data

The App can show public-land trail and road information published by the U.S. Forest Service and the U.S. Bureau of Land Management (BLM). This is public data from the U.S. government. It is handled the same way as the Forest Service data described above.

How the App gets it

As you move around the map, the App asks the agency's public map data services for the trails and roads in the area you are viewing. Like any website or app that loads data from the internet, the agencies’ servers receive your device’s IP address, basic device and app information, and the map area being requested. Because that area follows what you are viewing, it may be near your location.

We do not send the agencies your name, email address, bike or battery details, recorded rides, or purchase information.

How it is stored

Copies of the map data you have viewed may be saved on your device so the map loads faster and works better with a weak signal. This cache is public map data, not personal information, and uninstalling the App removes it.

What it is used for

We use the map data only to draw trails and roads on your map and to show the trail details that are available. The agencies run their own services and are responsible for their own practices, and their privacy policies apply to the requests they receive. Map data can be incomplete or out of date; see our Terms of Service.

E-Bike Trails is an independent app. It is not an official government app and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the agencies.

05 What we don’t do

06 Your choices and controls

Depending on where you live (for example, California, the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom), you may have rights to access, correct, delete or port personal information we hold about you. Because we don’t hold your App data on our servers, you can exercise most of these controls directly in the App. If you contact us by email, we’ll handle the information in your message as described below.

07 Website and email

This website is a simple informational site. It does not use analytics, advertising or social-media trackers, and it does not set cookies. Because nothing on it tracks you, there is no cookie banner. If that changes, we will ask for your consent before turning any non-essential tracker on, and we will update this policy first.

Server logs and fonts

Like most websites, our web host receives your IP address, browser type and the pages you request when you load a page, and may keep standard server logs for security and troubleshooting. The site’s fonts are hosted on our own server, so loading a page does not send your information to Google or any other font provider.

Email

If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include in your message, and we use it only to respond to you and improve the App. We retain support emails only as long as needed for that purpose.

Contributor site

The optional contributor site lets you suggest trails, rides, charging spots and parks, or send feedback. It is separate from the App and works differently:

Browser storage

The contributor site does not use cookies. To keep you signed in, it saves a sign-in token in your browser’s storage. This is strictly necessary for the sign-in you asked for, so it does not need a consent prompt, and we do not use it for tracking or advertising.

NamePurposeHow long it lasts
ebtc.access, ebtc.refresh, ebtc.userKeep you signed in to the contributor site (sign-in tokens and your basic account details)Until you close the browser tab, or until you sign out if you chose “Keep me signed in on this device”

You can remove this data at any time by signing out or by clearing your site data in your browser settings.

08 Children’s privacy

The App is not directed to children under 13 (or under 16 in some regions), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us, contact us and we will delete it.

09 Security

Information stored in the App stays on your device and is protected by your device’s own security features, such as your screen lock. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, so we can’t guarantee absolute security.

10 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the App grows — for example, if we add features that handle information differently. When we do, we’ll change the “Last updated” date above, and if the changes are significant we’ll let you know in the App or on this website.
